New Air Jordan models from Nike

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Nike to launch new Air Jordan models. The next two Nike Air Jordan 1 Retro Low’s will be releasing soon. These shoes are simple yet classy.

The white version features premium white leather with white croc details. The black colorway offers premium black leather with shiny black patent accents.

I really like the black edition. It would make a great alternative to dress shoes. These kicks could be worn with jeans or more dressy attire, and they’d look great.

These models expect to hit shelves this month.

Nike Free 5.0 Trail Review

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Nike Free 5.0 Trail

The Nike Free 5.0 Trail Running Shoe is a great improvement on the already-comfy Free 5.0. The extreme flexibility from the grooved sole allows your foot to move as it wishes, not how the shoe wishes. Yet the insole provides arch support and the shoe provides enough cushioning to make every walk or run a joy. The shoes come with a recommended training schedule to slowly build your time in them, as your feet and body adjust to the extreme freedom.

Buy Nike Shoes

Pros
  • Extreme flexibility mimics running barefoot
  • Comfortable upper highly ventilated
  • Retrains muscles and strengthens your feet
  • Sole with good traction for the trail
  • More cushioned than the Nike Free 5.0
Cons
  • Does not come in widths

Description

  • Designed to imitate running barefoot, with extreme flexibility in the sole and upper.
  • Comes with a training program to build up time in the shoe as your foot adjusts.
  • Supposedly trains intrinsic muscles, strengthening your foot and giving you more natural stability
  • Good sole protection on pavement or small gravel surfaces.
  • Meant for shorter runs of 3-6 miles.
  • Slips on and off, plus laces for better fit.

Guide Review - Nike Free 5.0 Trail Running Shoe

I loved the comfort of the Nike Free 5.0 shoes, but they lacked cushioning for walking more than a few blocks. The 5.0 Trail Shoe has much more cushioning and are a pleasure to walk in.Fit
I have avoided Nike for years because their narrow toe box and lack of widths made them unwearable for me. The men’s sizes of the 5.0 Trail shoe are wide enough for me.

Flexibility
The Nike Free 5.0 imitates being barefoot. The trail version has fewer grooves for flexibility than the 5.0, but is still extremely flexible. It comes with a schedule to build up your time in the shoe as your body gets used to the extreme flexibility. Walkers more than runners need a flexible shoe to allow the foot to roll through a step.

Upper
The upper is comfortable, suede-like, and designed to move with the foot. The shoe feels great, they are now my preferred shoe for wearing all day long. Most important for me, it doesn’t irritate my bunion. The trail version lacks the netting at the back of the heel that everybody rips with the 5.0, a big improvement. However, I’d be reluctant to take these suede shoes out on an actual trail, I would think they would rip easily and pick up debris.

Fast
You can get a great heel plant and roll-through for a fast walking stride. These shoes make my feet want to zoom.

Verdict
These are my new favorite in my daily shoe wardrobe, great for walks and runs of 30-60 minutes to start, comfortable around the office, school, or home.

How long do running shoes last? Running shoe replacement tips

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Running in old or worn out shoes can lead to an increase in running injuries. Over time running shoes lose stability and shock absorption capacity. When this happens the stress to the feet and legs increases dramatically. Over time such added stress can lead to an overuse injury. A simple prevention strategy includes replacing running shoes when they wear out.

Buy Running Shoes
The midsole layer of a shoe provides the cushioning and stability. This area usually wears out before the outsole shows major signs of wear. When a midsole wears out the shoe looses functional stability. It is this loss of stability and cushioning that leads to increased stress and increased injury risk.

It is recommended that you replace running shoes between 350-550 miles depending on your running style, body weight, and the surface on which you run.

Lighter runners can get closer to the upper end of the recommendation while heavier runners are harder on shoes and should consider replacement shoes closer to 350 miles.

Running Shoe Replacement Tips

  • Track your mileage. After 350-550 miles it’s time for a new pair. For runners who log 25 miles per week replace your shoes every three to four months.
  • You can check for signs of wear on the sole by placing your old shoes on a table and looking at them from behind. If the soles are worn and leaning to one side, the midsole cushioning is probably worn as well.

Spotting Midsole Wear
A shoe’s midsole cushioning may be worn out long before the tread shows signs of wear. Because the bottom and tread of the shoe may look fine, identifying when the cushioning is shot isn’t easy to do. Here are some tips for identifying midsole wear:

  • First, pay attention to how you feel. As your shoes begin to give out, you may begin to get some aches or pains in your bones and joints. You may also notice slight muscle fatigue, new tightness, or possible shin splints.
  • Look for creasing of the midsole material in areas of high load (under the heel or the ball of the foot). A worn out midsole will have wrinkles and creases there.
  • Try to twist the shoe. A worn out midsole will allow the shoe to twist more easily than a new shoe.
  • Try on a new pair of the model that you are currently wearing. Compare this to your current shoes. If the cushioning in your shoes feels dead in comparison, it probably is.

Consider Rotating Shoes
If you run frequently it’s a good idea to have more than one pair of shoes. Think about buying two pair at a time (or buying a second pair about midway through the life of your first). Add the new pair in to your shoe rotation when your “old” shoes have about 200 miles on them. If you use two pairs of shoes you should still track mileage per shoe, and replace each after it has 350-550 miles on it.

History of Nike football shoes

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

Nike, originally known as Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS), was founded by University of Oregon track athlete Phil Knight and his coach Bill Bowerman in January 1964. The company initially operated as a distributor for Japanese shoe maker Onitsuka Tiger, making most sales at track meets out of Knight’s car. Many top Oregon runners began wearing the shoes, and the shoe’s popularity grew quickly. The company’s first self-designed product was based on Bowerman’s “waffle” design in which the sole of the shoe was inspired by the pattern of a waffle iron.

The company’s profits grew quickly, and in 1966, BRS opened its first retail store, located on Pico Blvd. in Santa Monica, Calif. In 1971, with the relationship between BRS and Onitsuka Tiger nearing an end, BRS prepared to launch its own line of footwear, which would bear the newly designed “Swoosh.” [Sources: ‘Swoosh’ by J.B. Strasser and ‘Just Do It’ by Donald Katz.]

The first shoe to carry this design was a soccer/football cleat named “Nike,” which was released in the summer of 1971. In February 1972, BRS introduced its first line of Nike shoes, with the name Nike derived from the Greek goddess of victory. In 1978, BRS, Inc. officially renamed itself to Nike, Inc. Beginning with Ilie Nastase, the first professinal athlete to sign with BRS/Nike, the sponsorship of athletes became a key marketing tool for the rapidly growing company.Nike football shoes

By 1980, Nike had reached a 50% market share in the United States athletic shoe market, and the company went public in December of that year. Its growth was due largely to ‘word-of-foot’ advertising (to quote a Nike print ad from the late 1970s), rather than television ads. Nike’s first national television commercials ran in October of 1982 during the broadcast of the New York Marathon. The ads were created by Portland-based advertising agency Wieden+Kennedy, which had formed several months earlier in April 1982.

Together, Nike and Wieden+Kennedy have created many indelible print and television ads and the agency continues to be Nike’s primary today. It was agency co-founder Dan Wieden who coined the now-famous slogan “Just Do It” for a 1988 Nike ad campaign, which was chosen by Advertising Age as one of the top five ad slogans of the 20th Century, and the campaign has been enshrined in the Smithsonian Institution.

Throughout the 1980s, Nike expanded its product line to include many other sports and regions throughout the world

Adidas Predator Absolute cleats are definitely an outstanding soccer shoes

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

Adidas Predator Absolute cleats are definitely an outstanding soccer shoes, like all Predators. They are well build with lots of elements making them very comfortable. And that’s the most important aspect of soccer cleats: comfort. And they are.

The question is:
Is the Adidas Predator Absolute better than its prior version - Predator Pulse?I am not sure. Actually I don’t think there is a huge improvement. Of course, in order to release a new version, Adidas had to add or change something, besides the name.

So it did by:

1.Adding another insole without 40g weight (Power Pulse) that you can exchange with Power Pulse insole and convert your soccer cleats into Predators without…Power Pulse (but much lighter). In a sense you’ll convert Predator Absolute into…Predator Mania (variant before Predator Pulse). Is that better than just have Predators with permanent Power Pulse technology? I guess…but I am not convinced.

2.Changing or re-engineering, if you like, the Predator technology. I don’t care how and where they placed those rubber (or liquid rubber) elements on the shoe, it simply won’t make you a player with super star quality. Sure the Predator technology might help a little but don’t count on scoring goals from free kicks like Beckham or Zidane just because you have cleats with Predator elements. In order to do it all you need to do is practice, practice and once more practice.

3.Changing design of the heel counter. It’s smaller (which is good – more comfort) but hopefully it’ll provide you with as much stability and protection as the old version.

So, why I think the Adidas Predator Absolute is not so much better than Predator Pulse? It’s because, in my opinion, these changes (improvements?) don’t make Predator Absolute more comfortable than Predator Pulse (which was already very comfortable anyway). Maybe the smaller external heel counter makes a little difference but…just a little. Also I am sure that your skill level or your game, shot, pass etc. won’t improve just because you wear Predator Absolute with re-engineered predator elements.

What I am trying to suggest to you is that if the money is an issue or you don’t necessarily must have every new model of Adidas soccer cleats right away, take an advantage of prices “revolution” in Adidas cleats market (it always happens when a new model comes out) and get yourself a high quality soccer cleats for much less. The “old” Predators Pulse are still the same awesome shoes that they were few months ago but…much cheaper now (about 40%).

Quality Soccer Shoes Give You A Feel For The Game And Feel Great Too

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

It has been said that more people in the world play soccer than any other sport, and there is little reason to doubt the veracity of that claim. With little more than an open field, a makeshift goal, and a ball, you can have a soccer game at just about any time. This is surely one of the reasons that soccer is so popular in some poor countries, but it hardly explains soccer’s popularity in developed countries like the United States. Here, organized soccer players need more than a ball to play, and in many cases, proper soccer shoes are required before you are allowed to take the field of play.

Soccer shoes are required for several reasons. Not only do appropriate shoes give you traction in a sport where traction is paramount, they also provide you with support and padding that will protect you from injury. A quality soccer shoe is constructed with an upper portion that is made with materials and layering that will give the player the most feel for the ball, and in a sport where your feet are as important as soccer, that feel is incredibly valuable.

Nike soccer shoes

Since feel for the ball is important, the materials used are also integral in transmitting that feel. Soccer shoes are usually made of real leather or synthetic leather, with real leather providing the best feedback for the player. Real leather has other advantages as well. Leather shoes tend to fit better and are often more durable as well. However, those advantages come with a higher price. Further, if you are playing on a wet, water logged field, a real leather shoe will absorb more moisture making it heavy and robbing it of its durability.

Buy soccer shoes online

A less expensive option is synthetic leather. Appropriate for beginning and intermediate players, synthetic leather offers an affordable entry level shoe for prospective soccer players. Further, synthetic leather offers greater water resistance and is ideal for play on wet fields. Synthetic leather shoes are easier to clean and tend to maintain their looks for a longer period of time even though they typically do not last as long as their leather counterparts.

The most important part of soccer shoes is where the rubber meets the road; the sole, where the cleats are. There are four types of soles on soccer shoes: molded cleats, detachable cleats, turf shoes, and indoor shoes. Molded cleats are the most basic and affordable design. Perfect for young or beginning players, molded cleats are part of the sole of the shoe and they are designed to be appropriate – although not ideal – for a wide range of playing conditions. Detachable cleats are similar to the molded cleats but with one major difference; you can remove them. By unscrewing the cleats and replacing them with different types and lengths, more advanced players can create a shoe that is ideal for the playing conditions they may face in their game.

Buy soccer shoes online

Soccer is not always played in cleats, however, and some shoes are designed for use on Astroturf or on other kinds of indoor surfaces. Looking as much like sneakers as typical soccer shoes, turf shoes and indoor shoes possess a tread designed to grip artificial surfaces while still providing the optimal feel that is needed in a soccer shoe.

When you purchase your soccer shoes make sure to be properly fit and remember that they are designed to feel snug, particularly on the upper portion of the shoe. Remember that a leather shoe will stretch over time, so a shoe that feels snuff at first may eventually stretch and mold to the exact shape of your foot making it like a part of you, and perfect for the game of soccer.
